Olympians, Indians, Bears get sweep

Jim Thorpe, Lehighton and Pleasant Valley all turned in dominating volleyball performances on Monday.

HavenLehighton swept Schuylkill Haven for a 25-6, 25-15, 25-20 non-league win.Taylor Yurasits paced the Indians (8-2 overall) with 19 assists, six kills and three aces. Tiff Thompson added 11 kills, three digs and three aces while Jackie Jordan chipped in with eight kills, seven aces and three digs.In the JV game, Lehighton needed an extra game to score a 25-5, 25-27, 15-8 victory over Schuylkill Haven.Pleasant Vy.-ES SouthPleasant Valley handed head coach John Gesiskie his 350th career coaching victory with a 25-4, 25-11, 25-14 Mountain Valley Conference win over East Stroudsburg South.Steph Schmitt paced the Bears with 11 assists and seven digs, while Kiersten Griesback added eight assists, five aces and three digs.Courtney Miller (11 kills, five blocks), Katie Lenart (seven digs, six aces), Bridget Lozier (eight kills) and Mackenzie Dorney (three kills, three digs) all contributed to the memorable PV win.With the win, the Bears also remain unbeaten at 8-0 in the MVC.BOYS SOCCERN.
