Area residents were involved in a three-vehicle crash that occurred about 1:58 a.m. on Nov. 23 along Interstate 78 in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County.

State police at Fogelsville said Brian S. Clancy, 21, of Shenandoah, driving a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe, and Holly R. Kovacs, 24, of Nesquehoning, driving a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, were both eastbound in the right lane. Lavelle L. Saunders, 39, of Harrisburg, driving a 2013 Mack truck with trailer, was also eastbound in the center lane.

Troopers said the Hyundai struck the rear of the Jeep. After impact the Hyundai veered to the right and came to rest along the south berm facing east. After impact the Jeep veered to the left and entered the center lane where it struck the right side of the trailer wheels on Saunders' rig. After striking the rig the Jeep spun in an unknown direction and rolled an unknown number of times before coming to rest partially in the center berm and the left lane, facing south. The rig continued eastbound a distance and came to rest on the center berm.

Kovacs and passengers Louise G. Young, 48, of Lehighton, and Hannah Card, 13, of Walnutport, were all injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, by Cetronia ambulance.

Clancy and passengers Vincent M. Cavallo, 22, of Mahanoy City, Brittany Obrzut, 21, Thomas Cherewski, 16, and James H. Hardy, 18, all of Shenandoah, and Sieara Serate, 17, of Frackville, were all not injured. Saunders was also not injured.

Troopers said Clancy was cited for operating a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.
