On Nov. 15, Carbon County commissioners honored longtime volunteer Carl Merluzzi with a resolution. The resolution included a list of some of the highlights of Merluzzi's life of service.

• He was an active firefighter and ambulance driver with the Lehighton volunteer fire department for more than 20 years; he volunteered with the Red Cross and the Trinity Lutheran food bank; served on the Carbon County Election board and on the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital Board of trustees from 1995 through 2004, then on the Board of Trustees of Blue Mountain Health System from 2004-2009.Merluzzi earned the Mauch Chunk Trust Company's Community Heroes Award in 2010.
