The Tamaqua Community Arts Center, 125 Pine St. in Tamaqua, will host a "Musical Trip Around the World" on Tuesday, November 27th at 6:30-8 p.m.
Have you ever wanted to visit the jungles of the Amazon or Carnival in Rio? How about a safari in Africa? Maybe a tour of Rome, Paris or London is more to your liking. What about a visit to sunny Spain or cool Scandinavia? Perhaps a fast train ride through Germany or a leisurely cruise down the Danube followed by a trip across Russia will pique your interest. Would you like to sail to China with Russian Sailors or visit the "Land Down Under"? The welcome mat is out in Antarctica for our group.
If you answered yes to any of the above you will want to go on a musical journey around the world. Your musical tour guide is Barry Gangwer, who will draw examples of music from or about places on every continent. He will tell stories of the music, the composer and the site depicted. The program will also feature slides of the various places as well.
This is the first program in a series which will continue with "The Sounds of Unusual Instruments," strange and odd instruments from the ancient to the modern on December the fourth. The program on December 11th will feature "Sounds of Christmas," the story of some familiar and unfamiliar music for the holiday and the winter seasons. Participants will receive a listening guide with each session.
Gangwer has made numerous music appreciation programs throughout the area at churches libraries and schools.
If you enjoy mostly "Classical" music presented in an informational and light hearted manner you will enjoy these programs. Please call the Tamaqua Community Arts Center at 570-668-1192 for information and reservations.
