North Schuylkill's Rick Geist has stepped down as the school's head football coach.

Geist, who was suspended for the rest of the season because of an incident that occured at halftime of the Panther Valley game on Oct. 26, turned in his letter of resignation Sunday.

The longtime mentor led the Spartans to a 49-19-2 record from 1993-98 and then returned in 2006. He finished his North Schuylkill tenure with a mark of 146-66-2 which included two District 11 titles and three Anthracite Football League championships.

Geist also coached Cardinal Brennan for six seasons. While with the Chargers he compiled a record of 47-20.

The Spartans were 6-3 following the victory over Panther Valley. Without Geist on the sidelines, North Schuylkill defeated ELCO Saturday.
