Larry Krome, Gilbert, received an unexpected surprise at a luncheon, hosted by the West End Fair for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs and the Pennsylvania 4-H.

Daniel Naylor, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture regional director, was a guest speaker as was Barron "Boots" Hetherington, special adviser to the governor. Hetherington announced that Krome was selected to be this year's Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Fair Ambassador for the West End Fair.

Krome was surprised by the announcement. He has been a director or officer of the West End Fair for 51 years. He also is a past president of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs. He has loved fairs since he was a young boy and has devoted much of his life to the West End Fair.

The Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs and the Pennsylvania 4-H organizations are important to the success of the Pennsylvania fairs. The 100th anniversary celebration luncheon was attended by local, county and state officials in addition to fair directors.

State Rep. Michael Carroll presented the fair with a citation celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs.

State Rep. Rosemary Browne presented Sherri Abruzzi, extension educator, with a citation celebrating the 100th anniversary of Pennsylvania 4-H.

The citations were sponsored by Representatives Carroll, Brown, Mario M. Scavello and Michael T. Peifer.
