Approximately 80 high school students from throughout Carbon and Lehigh Counties visited the Olde Jail Museum in Jim Thorpe as part of the Lehigh Carbon Intermediate Unit (LCIU) "Student Forum" program.
The LCIU Student Forum program is intended to give the students a real-life insight into just what goes into starting, establishing, and managing a business.
The participating students are high school Juniors and Seniors who are chosen in different ways in their schools to be a representatives for the Student Forum.
Each month, a different school district in Carbon or Lehigh County hosts the forum and they come up with the program event for the day.
This visit to the Olde Jail Museum was hosted by the Weatherly Area School District.
While there, the students listened to a talk by museum co-owner Betty Lou McBride about what being a business owner entails.
She touched on many points of entrepreneurship such as debt management, customer interaction, business responsibilities, etc.
The spirit of her message to them was to do their best and their work will reap the rewards.
The question and answer session at the end of their visit reflected the keen interest that the students had taken in what Mrs. McBride had to say to them.
