Rita Morrison's musical tribute Sunday will benefit Hospice House

Gene Morrison, along with his family and friends (The Morrison Group), will be hosting a musical tribute concert Sunday in honor and memory of Rita Morrison of Hometown, who died last June after a 13 year battle with breast cancer. Son, Chris Morrison, said, "My mother is loved by so many and cherished by everyone she has touched," referring to her as the Morrison family matriarch.

The tribute, entitled "A Song for Rita," benefits the services of Hospice of Central Pennsylvania. The Morrison family, who are routinely involved in supporting the Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, stressed their efforts in helping the organization further expand and aid the people of Schuylkill County, as well as bring awareness to the need for a Hospice House in this area.Hospice of Central Pennsylvania was founded in 1979 by a small group of individuals concerned about care for the dying. Hospice House representatives state their organization's mission is one of providing the terminally ill of Central Pennsylvania and their families with compassion, dignity and care through the coordinated delivery of emotional, physical and spiritual support of the highest quality. They stated, "We exist solely to care for individuals and families who are coping with a life-limiting illness and who prefer the comfort of their own home and the support of family and friends to the impersonal setting of a hospital or nursing facility."Their website adds, "Our agency was one of the pioneers of the hospice concept nationwide and the first hospice in Central Pennsylvania. In the mid-1990s we saw a need for a care environment for patients who required more support than they could get at home, but who still wished to remain in a home-like setting. In response to this need, we opened the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence in 1996. This six bed residence, located on a serene, wooded lot, is the first and only stand-alone hospice residential facility in Central Pennsylvania."Members of the Morrison family performing musical tribute concert will be Gene Sr., Jarrett, Chris, Holly, Allison, Abbie, Jake, Olivia, Sadie and Ella. Friends also taking part will be Deb and Devon Sweeney, Pat and Shane McGeehan, The Coal County Express, Faith Roberts, Samantha Yachera, Dave Billig and Matt McGasko. The tribute will be held this Sunday starting at 4 p.m. at the Trinity

U.C.C., 22 Lafayette Street, in Tamaqua. For more information about the concert contact any Morrison family member or visit the event on Facebook.Chris Morrison added, "Our family realizes the benefit a Hospice House would provide to the terminally ill who do not have the support system of close family and friends, and to assist loved ones who need help with their day-to-day care."For more information on the Hospice of Central Pennsylvania please call (570) 628-2290 or visit
