Fillies clinch D-11 berth

Marian picked up a softball victory on Saturday that not only secured a District 11 postseason berth, but also put the Fillies in a playoff for the Schuylkill League Division III title.

SOFTBALLMarian-ShenandoahMarian rode the pitching of Bethany Shaud to a 7-0 Schuylkill League win over Shenandoah Valley.The victory not only secures the Fillies (10-9, 6-7) a berth in the district playoffs, but combined with Mahanoy Area's win over Nativity on Sunday, also puts the Fillies in a tie atop the Schuylkill League Division III standings with the Golden Bears. The two teams are scheduled to meet in a playoff today at 4:30 p.m. at Tamaqua to decide the division title. The winner will qualify for the Schuylkill League playoffs, which will get underway on Wednesday at Blue Mountain.Gabby Cann led the Fllies offensively with three hits.
