Board of health
The Tamaqua Board of Health held its May meeting with Earl Boettger, James Gormley, Shirley Becker and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.
Barron reported making five spot check inspections: M and I deli, American Legion Post 173, Chili Dog, Tamaqua Diner and Boyer's Food Mart.
He also received and adjusted four complaints; three concerning rubbish/trash and one for a strong cat urine odor.
There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.
The board reminds residents of borough ordinances pertaining to dog waste.
Dog owners are responsible for cleaning up their own properties in a timely manner and anyone who walks their dog is responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
Violations should be reported to Tamaqua Borough Hall, (570) 668-3444. Please provide the place, date, time and name of the dog's owner. Citations will then be filed through the office of District Magistrate Stephen Bayer.
St. John UCC
The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. Sunday school classes for all ages will be held at 11 a.m.
The weekly radio program will be aired on WLSH - AM1410, at 11:30 a.m.
Next week, the bell choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday; Wednesday, the choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m.
The Tamaqua Salvation Army is sponsoring a series of free computer classes to the public. Computer labs are held every Monday, from 4-5 p.m, at 105 W. Broad St. with instructor Andy Leibenguth.

The Rev. Edward Bean will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. The service will includes a Mother's Day celebration and a service of Baptism.
An Ascension Day hymnsing and service will be held next Thursday, at 7:15 p.m., at Salem United Methodist Church, Drehersville.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. In honor of Mother's Day, small gifts will be presented to the women in attendance and special recognition will be given to the Allegro Bell and Shepherd Choir members. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, congregational council will meet at 7 p.m., deadline for June/July Messenger submissions; Thursday, Angel Choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., Shepherd Choir meets at 6:30 p.m., Chancel/Adult Choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m.
