Weatherly drug suspect arrested

Tamaqua Police Officers Anthony Stanell and Thomas Rodgers arrested a Weatherly man last night for allegedly selling heroin.

Tyler Shortway, 20, of Weatherly was arraigned last night on charges stemming from three separate alleged illegal drug deals. Shortway is accused of selling heroin to undercover operatives working in connection with the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force. The deals were made during the last week, one each in Tamaqua, Rush Township and McAdoo. Police confiscated 31 packets of suspected heroin with a street value of more than $600.The defendant was charged in all three deals, appearing before District Judge Stephen Bayer in his Tamaqua office. The charges include three felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance, three felony counts of misuse of a communications facility, four felony counts of possession with intent to deliver and four misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance.Judge Bayer imposed a bail of $15,000 straight cash bond on each of the three sets of charges. Unable to post the required $45,000, Shortway was incarcerated in the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville.Assisting Rodgers and Stanell were officers from Rush Township, McAdoo and the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force.
