The Carbon County Bar Association held its annual Law Day program at the county courthouse in Jim Thorpe on Tuesday morning.

The program is held annually to observe Law Day, which was established by a proclamation signed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on Feb. 3, 1958.Law Day is observed on May 1. According to a program handed out yesterday, "Law Day is an opportunity for all Americans to celebrate and enjoy our freedoms."About 200 students from the county's five high schools Lehighton, Palmerton, Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe and Weatherly, along with Marian High School, attended the program.Students from each of the five schools were selected to sit as jurors during a mock trial conducted as part of the program. Students from Marian and Palmerton high schools made up the trial teams.The trial consisted of testimony from witnesses, questioning by trial team members and deliberations of the jury in reaching a verdict.The students also viewed the county's jury orientation video which is presented to all prospective jurors during a jury trial term.Remarks were also made by county judges President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II and Judges Steven R. Serfass and Joseph J. Matika.The Young Lawyers Division of the county bar was in charge of the program.Heading the group were co-chairpersons attorneys Jason M. Rapa, Adam R. Weaver along with Kim M. Christie and Angela M. Stehle.David B. Shulman, is bar chancellor; Barry C. Shabback, first vice chancellor; Cynthia Dyrda-Hatton, second vice chancellor; Kim R. Roberti, treasurer; Angela M. Stehle, secretary; and Sheri A. Ryan, coordinator.
