Serving again

Members of the Western Poconos Lions Club and Lioness Club served as judges for the Mid Atlantic Community Papers Association's annual Advertising and Editorial Awards contest. Members of both clubs met with MACPA's executive director Alyse Mitten, her assistant Kasey Mitten, and contest chairman Ruth Isenberg to select winners from over 300 entries submitted by free community newspapers from an eight-state region. Categories included display advertising, special sections, photography, and general excellence. This is the second year the Lions and Lionesses have served as judges. MACPA invited the group to participate again because member publishers appreciated the real-world experience members brought to the task of evaluating the type of material they might read and use to make purchasing decisions. Lions and Lioness shown doing some of the judging include, from left, Lion Jon Evans, Lion Bob Argot, Lioness Nancy Christman and Lion Charles Rush. Another table of Lions and Lioness volunteers was equally busy.
