I-80 crash near Bartonsville claims Long Pond woman

One person was killed and another flown to a Lehigh Valley area hospital following a crash Tuesday morning along Interstate 80 in Monroe County.

The crash involved a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fee sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a tractor-trailer rig and occurred in the westbound lanes, just west of Bartonsville.The deceased was identified as Concetta Terlizzi, 77, of Long Pond, a passenger in the sports utility vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was her husband, Joseph A. Terlizzi, 76. He was flown to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where he was treated and released.According to police Baldev Singh, 46, of Richmond Hill, N.Y., was driving the tractor with trailer in the left lane when Terlizzi attempted to change lanes and struck the front passenger side of the rig.After impact the rig went off the road, crossed the median and both eastbound lanes, before coming to rest on the shoulder. Singh was not injured.The accident resulted in a tie up of traffic along the busy interstate for hours and had traffic backed up for miles. Initially all lanes were shutdown but eventually the eastbound lanes were reopened. Westbound traffic had to be re-routed for several hours.
