Schuylkill IU student charged

A student at the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 school at Marlin, 17 Maple Lane, Norwegian Township, is facing assault charges. He was one of two students from county schools facing charges.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said about 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, an 11-year-old male from Shenandoah became unruly and aggressive during one of his classes. As the juvenile was being restrained by staff members he struck Scott Forney, 29, of Pottsville, with a closed fist on the left forearm. He was further restrained until his parent and a Schuylkill County Crisis worker arrived at the school.Troopers said aggravated assault charges will be filed with the county juvenile probation office.The second incident involving a student occurred a the Blue Mountain High School at 1076 W. Market St., North Manheim Township.Troopers said a 17-year-old male student went into the boys locker room and went through numerous lockers and stole $177 from them. The teen was observed to be in the locker room by school staff who viewed surveillance video.When approached by school staff the teen admitted to the thefts and gave back the money. He is facing theft counts to be filed with the county juvenile probation office. The incident occurred about 2 p.m. on Monday, March 5, troopers said.
