The Anthracite Football League officially extended invitations to Lehighton and Blue Mountain to join the league for the 2014-15 school year.
Both teams were accepted on a 9-0 vote by league members.
League schools will meet this summer to work out scheduling for the expanded 11-team league.
The Lehighton School Board will have to vote to officially accept the invitation at its next meeting, but that is expected to be a mere formality. Lehighton recently accepted an invitation to join the Schuylkill League for all sports other than football and field hockey. The AFL invite means that finding a location for the school's field hockey team is the last hurdle remaining in the school's decision to leave the Mountain Valley Conference.
Lehighton's field hockey team is expected to remain as an associated member in the MVC, although that hasn't been officially announced yet.
