Lehigh Carbon Community College and Carbon Career & Technical Institute are gearing up for the first ever 36-week SHINE STEM Career Academy, which is open to any Carbon County student in grades six through eight.

To learn more about getting your child involved in the career academy, Rachel Strucko, coordinator of the SHINE STEM Career Academy; as well as other SHINE officials, will be visiting area middle schools to answer questions and provide enrollment information. Officials will be at the following schools. Events will be held from 4 to 6 p.m.

Weatherly Middle School: To be announced.

March 8: Panther Valley Middle School.

March 13: L.B. Morris Elementary School, Jim Thorpe.

March 15: Penn-Kidder Elementary School, Jim Thorpe.

March 20: Palmerton Middle School.

March 22: Lehighton Middle School.

The Carbon County SHINE Career Academy is a 36-week course that engages students in learning about careers of the future. There are no income guidelines for this program, but space in the program is limited and students will be taken on a first come, first served basis.
