DISTRICT 11 CLASS AAAA GIRLS CONSOLATION

No. 3 Whitehall (16-9 overall, 9-5 LVC)vs. No. 1 Pleasant Valley (17-9 overall, 9-3 MVC)TIPOFF: Friday, March 2nd at 7 p.m. at NazarethCOACHES: Whitehall - Rick Worman; Pleasant Valley - Nadia GauronskyLEADING SCORERS: Whitehall - Kayla Bet (13.6 ppg), Madison Kelly (6.2 ppg), Cara Basile (5.8 ppg); Pleasant Valley - Kelcia Harris (13.3 ppg.), Amber Chieffo (7.7 ppg.), Arden Cisluycis (6.4 ppg.), Keri Dekmar (5.6 ppg.), Jordan Meckes (5.6 ppg.)GAME NOTES: Whitehall and Pleasant Valley will square off in the District 11 AAAA consolation game after losing in their respective semifinal matchups. Pleasant Valley fell to Liberty 44-30, while the Zephyrs were upset by Bangor 41-34 ... The winner of this game will still clinch a berth into the PIAA playoffs as Class AAAA will be given three spots this year ... Pleasant Valley has made the state playoffs just one time in school history. That's happened in 2003 when the Bears beat Easton for the District 11 title. PV then defeated Central Bucks East in its state tournament opener before being eliminated by St. Joesph's Academy in the Eastern quarterfinals ... Kayla Bet, an All-LVC First Teamer, is Whitehall's leading scorer at over 13 points-per-game. She went over the 1,000-point plateau earlier this year in a home game against Pocono Mountain East. The senior leads the team with 25 three-pointers on the year and will have the focus of the Bears' defense solely on her. That is because no other Whitehall player is averaging more than seven points a game. Madison Kelly is the Zephyrs' second-leading scorer at 6.2, but is capable of hitting the three (19 on the year) ... These two teams got together back on Jan. 5. Whitehall picked up a 47-36 victory on their home court in that game. Bet had 15 points in the contest and was the only Zephyr in double figures. The Bears' Kelecia Harris matched Bet with 15 points of her own. Jordan Meckes added 10, but was the only other Pleasant Valley to score more than four points. Amber Chieffo, the Bears' second-leading scorer, totaled just two points ... The last time these two teams met in the district playoffs was back in 2009. In a first-round No. 8-9 matchup, Whitehall defeated Pleasant Valley 52-40 before going on to knock off the No. 1 seed in Pocono Mountain West a game later.QUOTEABLE: "We are somewhat familiar with what Whitehall does since we got to play them earlier this season. Although we lost, at the time we were still a young team trying to find our identity. A lot of time and a lot of games have been played since then and I expect us to come out with a lot of confidence."A state playoff berth is on the line. Even though we didn't play very well against Liberty, we still have a chance to guarantee ourselves at least one more game and make it to the state playoffs. We can't dwell on the last game. It is in the past and there is nothing we can do about it now. We have to concentrate on the task at hand because there is definitely a lot left to play for." - Pleasant Valley's Nadia Gauronsky.
