Summerfest

The Tamaqua Historical Society will sponsor its 22nd Annual Summerfest celebration on Father's Day, June 17. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. and will be held in the West Broad Street downtown area.

Movies at the park

The East End Playground Association will begin this year's series of Monday evening movies on June 18. The film "The Muppets" will be presented at approximately 8 p.m.

Admission is free and the concession stand will be open.

Lyme disease

Penn State Master Gardeners are sponsoring a mini seminar about Lyme disease on June 26 at the Schuylkill Ag Center Conference Room, 1202 Ag Center Dr., Pottsville. Special guest speaker will be Dr. Ron Hamlen, vice chair of the Lyme Disease Association of Southeastern PA.

In addition to discussing the primary concerns surrounding Lyme disease, Dr. Hamlen will explain the ongoing research to control and eradicate the disease. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.

Computer classes

The Tamaqua Salvation Army is sponsoring a series of free computer classes to the public. Computer labs are held every Monday, from 4-5 p.m, at 105 W. Broad St. with instructor Andy Leibenguth.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, WASP family picnic begins at 10 a.m.; Saturday, June 23, clothing drive begins at 10 a.m.

St. John UCC

The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The weekly radio program will be aired on WLSH - AM1410, at 11:30 a.m.
