Eighth grade student Heather Getten, 14, of St. Jerome Regional School (SJRS) in Tamaqua was chosen is a national winner in the Holy Childhood Association (HCA) Christmas Artwork Contest.
Each year, twenty-three different drawings are chosen as winner and the artwork is reproduced as HCA Christmas e-greetings. Getten's work, titled "Shepherds", was selected from thousands of entries and will be displayed at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C.
The contest was open to all Catholic schools, parish religious education and home school students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
"Since its founding 160 years ago, the Holy Childhood Association has had the single focus of bringing the love of Jesus to the world's children," said SJRS mission moderator Mary Dakosty. "HCA's annual Christmas Artwork Contest is one way children in the United States express their love and commitment to children in distant missions."
