Two Marian students receive science competition awards

Two Marian Catholic High School students received awards at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Competition, held recently at Penn State University, University Park campus. Stephen Valente, son of Robert and Michele Valente of Sugarloaf, was awarded first and second place presentations for his two chemistry projects, as well as a State Perseverance Plaque for earning first place awards in the last six years of competition. Ryan Darrough, son of David and Colette Darrough of Drums, received a first place award for his Behavioral Psychology project. The teens were sponsored by Robert Valente, a science teacher at Marian, and Mrs. Lorraine Piehota, retired science teacher at Bishop Hafey High School. Christopher Parise served as chaperone for the trip to the university. Announcement of the awards was made by Sister Barnard Agnes, IHM, Marian Catholic Principal.
