Supervisors receive complaints about Veterans' Memorial flags

In public comment: Dave Bryfogel called the flagless Veterans' Memorial a disgrace as he addressed the East Penn supervisors at their Monday meeting.

He credited Supervisor John Strockoz with providing hardware to fasten the emblems on the grave markers.Bryfogel said he offered to help Hal Resh put up flags at the monument, going as far as offering to go to Rep. Doyle Heffley's office and asking for new flags. Though the township has no state flag, a United States flag is available and should be put up."It's for the veterans who have died for our country. I'll go down at night and take it down and put it up again in the morning until we get lights," he said.Supervisors did not comment.Harvey Keiper said Clair Troxell brought five trailers from Bowmanstown. They are loaded with junk and are parked at Troxell's. It's a disgrace that people have to look at it, he said.Joe Ehritz said the supervisors should speak clearly and loud so people can hear. Later during the regular meeting he was appointed to a vacancy in the planning commission. If sewers are not hooked up, why can't the supervisors condemn the houses as unlivable?, Ehritz asked. However, supervisors were unwilling to take people's homes away.Solicitor Jim Nanovic said the options are to sue the owners of the 10 homes that have not connected or take them to a magistrate. He sent letters to all 10 but has not heard from them.Ehritz said it is not fair for those who have connected and are paying user fees. Some people paid as much as $15,000 to hook up.In other business: It was announced the June18 planning commission meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting will be July 16.The township office will be closed Friday, June 8.Supervisor Dean Kercsmar said the township is looking at all legal options to collect the $624,500 judgment against Clair Troxell. The survey is complete for the Ashfield playground.
