Lehighton teens will attendKeystone Girls State

Elizabeth Reichard and Morgan E. Ott, juniors at Lehighton Area High School, have been selected by Shoemaker-Haydt Unit 314 American Legion Auxiliary, Lehighton, to attend Keystone Girls State.

Reichard is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Reichard of Lehighton. She is active in National Honor Society; Top 10 Percent of the Class; Red Cross Club; Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE); Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FFCLA); and is an active church member at Emmanuel UCC, Bowmanstown. She is also active with Lehighton Downtown Initiative committee and is a social member of the Mahoning Fire Company.Ott is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Ott. She is a Safe School Ambassador (SSA) and is in the Top 10 Percent of her class. She is active in Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) and Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship. She is employed at Subway.This "Experience in Government" will be held at Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, June 24-30, and is the 67th session sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. About 200 girls are brought together through sponsorship of local Auxiliary Units and other organizations to study government on city, county and state levels.During the week, the girls will elect city, county and state officials, including governor, lt. governor, and other officers, as well as an outstanding citizen. Two senators will attend Girls Nation in the Washington D.C. area during the week of July 22-28.LaRue Fritz is the Girls State chairman for Shoemaker-Haydt Unit 314 American Legion Auxiliary, Lehighton.
