The Schuylkill County commissioners approved a rate increase for daily room and board at Rest Haven Home in Schuylkill Haven, the county run facility, at their meeting held Wednesday at the courthouse in Pottsville.
The daily room and board rate was increased from $250 per day to new rates beginning Saturday, Sept. 1. Private room, $325; semi-private three beds, $300; four bed rooms, $275; and alzheimer unit, $300.
Also a contract with Orwigsburg ambulance was amended to increase the contract by $9,960.
A lease agreement was entered with Saint John's United Church of Christ, Schuylkill Haven, for use as a senior center the church's "Fellowship Hall" located in the church basement at a monthly rental fee of $880.
Contracts were approved with nine treatment centers to provide services to clients sent by the drug and alcohol agency and with seven firms to provide services for the children and youth services agency.
Two coal leases were renewed for the Premium Coal Company, also known as Jader Inc., to strip mine for coal on county held land in Schuylkill and Blythe townships.
An agreement was entered with Reading Anthracite Company, Pottsville, to supply approximately 1,000 rice size coal for the county prison and courthouse at $169.50 per ton.
The commissioners hired Theresa Zubris, New Philadelphia, as part time office support and general mailroom worker at $11.905 per hour to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Ronald Halupa, Shenandoah.
They also approved the transfer at Rest Haven Home of Melanie Devers, Port Carbon, from part time nurse's aide to full time at $11.72 per hour; Rose Nordall, Pine Grove, from full time nurse's aide to full time housekeeper at $14.6283 per hour; and Sheena Witman, Orwigsburg, resigned from her post as part time licensed practical nurse.
At a meeting of the salary board the board eliminated at the request of the children and youth service agency the position of clerk two and created the position of clerk typist 2 and fixed the salary of Michelle Wright, Hegins, at $12.5369 per hour who was reclassified as clerk typist 2.
