Summer reading

There is still about a month of summer vacation left, and plenty of time for area youngsters to settle in with a good book.

This week, the staff at Panther Valley Public Library share some of their favorites.The grade level and recommended books are:First through third grade:A Ball for Daisy by Chris Raschka; Sugar Plum Ballerinas series by Whoopi Goldberg, Deborah Underwood and Maryn Roos; Bailey by Harry Bliss.Fourth through seventh grade:Bad Kitty Meets the Baby by Nick Bruel; The Summer I learned to Fly by Dane Reinhardt; and Young Freddie by Cynthia Voigt.Eighth through 12th grade:Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick, O.K. for Now by Gary Schmidt; and Beautiful Creatures series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.Panther Valley Public Library is located at 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford. Hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.; Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon; and Thursday from 5-7 p.m. It is closed on Saturday and Sunday.The phone number is (570) 645-3780.
