Carbon County's Comprehensive and Greenway Plans are moving along, officials report.

During the county planning commission meeting on Tuesday, the board listened as guest speaker, Charlie Schmehl, vice president of Urban Research and Development Corp. of Bethlehem, overviewed Carbon County's proposed comprehensive and greenway plans. The plans, which will be used for grant purposes; as well as to help coordinate projects, are being compiled using data from the municipal levels and from conservation and recreation organizations.Plans include existing land uses and zoning; natural resources; recreation, park and open spaces; transportation; economic development; goals; and putting the plan into action.Schmehl said URDC is working with the county planning staff to create the plans. The project is funded mainly through state grants.The comprehensive plan overviews existing and future land use in the county.The greenway plan emphasizes the county's natural features and recreation corridors.Schmehl said the next step is to begin holding public meetings on the plans to hear what the public has to say and see if there are any necessary changes that should be made.Carbon County Planning Commission is required to hold one of these public meetings for the comprehensive plan portion of the document as part of the plan's requirements.He provided the board with maps and a document outlining the plan and asked if he could attend the commission's August meeting to discuss any questions the board would have.In other matters, the commission acted on four subdivision proposals. They are:• Todd D. and Kathleen U. Wagner received plan approval for their proposed subdivision at 17 Recreation Court, Penn Forest Township. The plans call for combining three lots to create a 3.585-acre lot.• Harry L. and Elaine D. Eckhart received plan approval for their proposed subdivision at 5260 Little Gap Road, Lower Towamensing Township. The plans call for subdividing 120.54 acres into two lots.• David J. Beltz received conditional plan rejection on his proposed subdivision at 3778 Interchange Road, Franklin Township. The plans call for subdividing 400.1 acres into four lots. Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, outlined the conditions that need to be met before approval could be given.• Roger G. and Linda Stewart received plan approval for their proposed subdivision at 555 Bear Creek Lake Drive, Penn Forest Township. The plan calls for combining two lots to create a .99-acre lot.
