Members of the Tamaqua Volunteers community initiative group are organizing their first free Community Donation Drop-Off and Giveaway event on Saturday July 28 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Volunteers are asking residents to drop off all types of appliance and furniture donations. Volunteers ask that all donations be in working condition. Some donations consist of beds, dressers, washers, dryers, refrigerators and anything else you want to donate.
These donations will be given away free to Tamaqua residents via a Chinese Auction-like system. Currently, the donations are only available for Tamaqua (18252) residents.
Volunteers state that people picking up donations must have identification to prove their Tamaqua residency. Andrew Leibenguth, Tamaqua Volunteers president and event organizer, said, "Donated items don't have to be in perfect condition. All I ask is that they are usable and don't smell bad." People are encouraged to drop items off between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on the day of the event. Due to limited manpower, donations are not able to be transported by volunteers.
The giveaway will start around 9:15 a.m. Leibenguth added, "Any items left over after each giveaway are free for any Tamaqua resident to take."
The event will be held at the storage area next to Schickram's Car Wash, Rose Street, in Tamaqua. Thorn's Cycles and ATV's of Tamaqua is donating the land and storage facility for the event. "If this is successful, we will hold the event regularly," said Leibenguth.
