The average refund is $2,794, according to the IRS: Pew Research Center.That seems awful high to me, both the percentage and the average refund.The Masters Golf Tournament last weekend was great sports drama. Adam Scott, the first Australian to win the coveted green coat, really worked for his title.I'm ready for the NFL draft. Not that I'm going to watch it, all 10 hours that it's on TV, but I like to read about it afterwards. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my Steelers come up with a couple of future all-pros.We live in a unique area when it comes to watching professional baseball. The Major League Phillies, Mets and Yankees are only two hours away. Baltimore and the Nationals only three hours away. And, closer to home, we have the Reading Phillies, the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre Railriders and the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs all within an hour's drive. I doubt there's another area in the entire country that could boast of eight professional teams within such a short distance.A Lansford woman, who stole $88,000 from a patient's account with the Blue Mountain Health System, got 90 days in jail, 90 days with an electronic monitor, and four years of supervised probation.Maybe it's me. But that's what the coward(s) who committed the senseless act, wanted us to feel, isn't it? They wanted to plant fear in us, and they succeeded. But events like the Boston Marathon will continue. Life went on after 9/11, when we were all crushed by that massacre. And life will go on after the Boston bombings, thanks to the spirit of the American people.Shame on whoever threw the case of empty beer cans out on Bugzie's Hill. Hope someone cleaned them up in honor of Earth Day.I grew up a New York Giants football fan. Pat Summerall was one of my favorites in those days of Frank Gifford, Y.A. Tittle and Same Huff. That continued when Summerall became one of the most recognizable voices of the NFL, teaming with John Madden for Sunday telecasts on CBS.Pat died this week at age 82. He will be missed in a way that we miss the golden voice of John Facenda after all these years.If you're going to Penn State University's Blue and White Spring Game today, be prepared for much higher security than you have experienced in the past. No backpacks, bags or purses will be allowed in the stadium, thanks to Monday's bombings at the Boston Marathon.Don't worry about the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg being canceled next year, like it was this winter.The National Rifle Association (NRA) is taking it over, and it will now be called the Great American Outdoor Show.The show was canceled last year because of backlash and vendor boycott because assault weapons were banned. That won't be an issue next year, if the NRA is calling the shots.Another part of our youth passed on this week, almost unnoticed. Frank Bank, who played "Lumpy" on the "Leave It To Beaver" show in the 1950s, has died at age 71.
