A Schuylkill County man was jailed over the weekend for aggravated assault and related offenses.
State police at Frackville said about 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, Andrew Bassininsky, 26, and a 23-year-old female, not identified by troopers, became involved in a verbal argument at their residence at 44 Line Ave., in Cass Township.
During the argument Bassininsky allegedly spit on the female and pushed her to the ground and struck her in the face several times. She attempted to run from him but he again tackled her to the ground. Bassininsky then reportedly attempted to suffocate her by placing his hand over her mouth and nostrils. While doing this, Bassininsky told the victim he was going to kill her.
Bassininsky briefly got off the victim to shut a window to prevent neighbors from hearing her gasping for air. When he did the woman fled the residence and called for help.
Bassininsky could not be immediately found and an arrest warrant was issued to him. He turned himself into troopers on July 1. He was later arraigned before on-call District Judge Christina Hale, of Frackville, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville in lieu of $100,000 straight cash bail.
