Sorority news
Members of the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met Jan. 11 at the home of Mary Machay.
Topics discussed included a thank you card received from a grateful member of the military who was a recipient of holiday cookies sent by the chapter and upcoming events. A pancake breakfast is scheduled for March 10 at Applebee's in Hazleton. Members were reminded to be at the restaurant by 7:30 a.m. that day.
Hostess Machay presented a program about the University of Texas MD Anderson Children's Art Program. Young cancer patients at the center design and make jewelry, greeting cards and note cards, which are then sold online and through catalogs. Proceeds from the sales fund programs designed to enhance the lives of other patients, during and post treatment.
The next regular meeting will be held Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m., at the home of Mary Machay.
