An articulation agreement was entered with the Keystone Technical Institute, Harrisburg, to allow graduates of the Schuylkill Technology Center, who are interested in pursuing education in a number of fields.
The agreement was approved by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 at its monthly meeting held Monday evening at the Maple Avenue Campus in Marlin, Norwegian Township.
The courses offered include drafting, technology, culinary arts specialist, child care specialist, medical assistance specialist and medical office technology.
Before course articulation can be awarded, certain conditions must be fulfilled.
The student must meet admission criteria, applicants must notify the financial aid department at Keystone for their intention to articulate in any of the courses, application must be made within six months after graduation from high school and applicants must begin classes at KTI prior to the February following graduation from the Schuylkill Center.
Applicants who desire credit for certain courses must meet the additional skill competency verification by KTI faculty.
The board also took the following action:
Ÿ Entered an agreement with Pennsylvania State Police Troop L for the current school year to provide an School Resource Officer (SRO) three days per week up to five hours daily at an average rate of $1,000 weekly.
Ÿ Settled a lawsuit with a former employee, James Monaghan, regarding compensation for unused vacation days was approved with payment of $13,750.
Ÿ Approved with Mount Carmel Area School District a one-on-one teacher aide service contract in amount of $60,804.
Ÿ Approved a lease for Early Intervention classroom space at Saint Charles Place, Schuylkill Haven, at a rate of $975 per month.
Ÿ Accepted a donation of $3,000 from the YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association) to support the Schuylkill County Youth Conference program activities.
It was reported to the board John Donton, one-on-one behavioral interventionist instructor for a student from Mahanoy Area in the Schuylkill Learning Academy, resigned as he acquired employment elsewhere and Nicole Stine, part-time cafeteria worker at the Maple Avenue Campus in Norwegian Township, resigned. She also accepted employment elsewhere.
Maria Strawhorn, New Ringgold, was hired as a substitute teacher at $220.67 per day; and Christy Tisdale, Orwigsburg, hired as a part-time teacher aide at $8.25 per hour. Erin Wendling, Girardville, was hired as a substitute cafeteria worker at $7.50 per hour.
The board is now accepting applications to fill the position of Human Resource Coordinator.
