One event that individuals with a sweet tooth and who may be trying to lose weight would have wanted to avoid was the Service Unit 309, 2012 Girl Scout Bake Off.

The event was held recently at Saint John's Lutheran Church on North Street in Jim Thorpe.

Service Unit 309 Girl Scouts are from the Jim Thorpe, Albrightsville, Nesquehoning, Summit Hill, Lansford and Coaldale areas.

Twenty-one Girl Scouts participated in the categories of Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador.

Those who participated were able to make and enter any kind of baked goods they liked.

Themes for the judging included Best Holiday, Most Original, Most Creative, Best Tasting and Leaders' Choice.

The girls judged to have the Best Tasting baked goods were Junior Girl Scout Maille Galvin, first place; Junior Girl Scout Sydney Connors, second place; and Cadette Girl Scout Sharin Fischer.

One sweet benefit for the judges, Scouts, and spectators was the opportunity to sample each entry.
