American Legion Post 314, Lehighton, honored one of its own Monday night during a regular Legion meeting.
Floyd Brown, commander, surprised Harry Wynn III with a plaque honoring Wynn for his many years of dedicated service to American Legion Post 314 and all other areas of the American Legion.
Brown also presented to Wynn a Legion Citation. The Citation gave sincere appreciation of outstanding service and assistance which contributed to the advancement of the American Legion programs and also recognized his active dedication to God and Country.
Wynn said that he was attending Penn State University and needed a job when he became involved in the Legion. He had been the Legion's part-time bartender, when he applied for a steward position, but that position was given to someone else and he walked out the commander that night. He said the steward position would have provided a little cash for a cash-strapped college student, but instead he was given the volunteer position.
"I've never regretted getting involved in the Legion," said Wynn. "It was meant to be."
Brown said that Wynn is the person who organizes all of the banquets and ceremonies for Memorial Day, Veterans Day and other Legion events.
"We know that without Harry our events would probably not be done right," said Brown. "We appreciate Harry for all that he has done for the Legion and all he does."
