Andreas VFW helps fire victims

Members of the George S. Patton Jr. VFW Post 5069 made a monetary donation to fire victims Keith and Petra Rex of 3176 Mahoning Drive West in Lehighton, following a fast moving fire on Jan. 28 that completely razed their home.

Friends of Keith and Petra have set up a fire victims' fund to help the couple as they recover. The Rex Fire Fund has been established at the Sovereign Bank Branch in Snyders, 2092 West Penn Pike, New Ringgold, 17960.Donations are also being accepted at the Hometown and Tamaqua branches of Sovereign Bank. Donors are to make checks payable to the Rex Fire Fund. Currently, the Rex's are living in a nearby home owned by a family member. Their two dogs, an Australian Sheperd and Border Collie, survived the fire. A wood burner was ruled the cause of the fire. Keith, who has lived there for 34 years, and his wife stated their appreciation to all the support from family, community, churches, fire companies and local organizations. Keith, who is a Korean war veteran, stated, "In a minute, it was all gone. We lost everything. Thanks to friends, family and community, we can look forward to starting over."
