A hit-and-run accident in Tamaqua, that damaged a U.S. Postal Service collection box, was quickly solved thanks to the involvement of two witnesses who contacted police.

At 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, a red Dodge pickup truck was traveling east on Broad Street, in the area of the Sovereign Bank, when the truck jumped the curb and struck the USPS collection box. The vehicle then continued traveling east toward Coaldale. The witnesses were able to provide officers with details, including the license plate number.The vehicle registration was checked and came back to Martin Sedlock, 128 W. Cottage Avenue, Tamaqua. Officers checked the areas surrounding the bank, as well as Sedlock's home.After checking the Cottage Avenue area, Patrolman Matt Houser was returning to the bank area when he observed a red Dodge pick up truck parked on the north side of Broad Street, near the intersection with Market Street. As the officer approached, the truck pulled out from the curb and headed west. Officer Houser followed the truck, activated his emergency lights and conducted a vehicle stop. The driver was identified as Michael Martin Sedlock, 24.Sedlock admitted striking the postal box, explaining he had apparently fallen asleep.He will be cited for hit and run.
