An Albrightsville man who on Nov. 30 allegedly struck a Jim Thorpe police officer with his car while the officer was engaged in traffic control, was in magistrate court Wednesday on other charges.

Robert W. Monroe Jr., 51, of Towamensing Trails Development, waived a hearing that was scheduled for charges of copying: recording devices, trademark counterfeiting, and unauthorized transfer of sounds from a recording device.Monroe, who is currently lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in leiu of $50,000 bail, was scheduled for the hearing before District Judge Edward Lewis in Jim Thorpe.The hearing on the charges related to the Jim Thorpe police officer is scheduled for Feb. 22 before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford.The charges Monroe was facing before Lewis had a connection to the other charges.Arresting officer Trooper H. Christopher Bonin, of the Lehighton barracks of the state police, states in the affidavit that it was because of a search warrant relative to the other incident that the alleged illegal recording activity was discovered. More than 1,440 discs of recorded movies were allegedly confiscated.The affidavit said that on Friday, Dec. 2, Troopers Jason Rasmus and Todd Tolin, accident reconstruction specialists for the state police, inspected Monroe's vehicle as a result of his accident involving the Jim Thorpe police officer.He writes, "During their search of the vehicle, troopers Rasmus and Tolin located approximately 440 discs containing fraudulent recordings of movies, with many of the movie titles still in theaters as per the date of this search warrant. Several examples of the movies found are: Tower Heist (release date: 10/24/11), Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 (release date 11/18/11), Immortals (release date 11/11/11), Harold and Kumar Christmas (release date 11/04/11), and Paranormal Activity 3 (release date 10/21/11). The movies appeared to be packaged in such a way that they were prepared to be sold."A search warrant was obtained for Monroe's residence, the affidavit says, and there, Trooper Bonin writes, he located "a make-shift recording studio in the basement of the residence."Trooper Bonin says in the affidavit that two computers were confiscated with multiple CD-Rom disc drives set up to copy and record CD-R and DVD-R discs. Also, more than 1,000 fraudulent DVD-R discs were also located containing fraudulent copies of various movies. Master copies of the discs found in Monroe's vehicle were also located."A box containing several thousand movie labels, a printer, and an X-acto paper cutter were also confiscated," says the affidavit.The charges confronting Monroe later this month are related to an incident on Nov. 30 along Route 209 in Nesquehoning, near the Jim Thorpe and Nesquehoning border.On the evening of Nov. 30, Jim Thorpe Police Officer Joseph David was assisting Nesquehoning police with traffic control because of a disabled motorist. While directing traffic, David was struck by a vehicle driven by Monroe, according to police, and was seriously injured.David was flown by MedEvac helicopter to Lehigh Valley hospital, Salisbury Township, and was admitted with multiple injuries including leg injuries that required surgery.Monroe faces the following charges related to that incident:• Aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI.• Aggravated assault by vehicle.• Accident involving injury - not properly licensed.• Use/possession of drug paraphernalia.• DUI: controlled substance - first offense.• DUI: controlled substance - Metabolite, first offense.• DUI: controlled substance - Impaired Ability, first offense.• Driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked.• Operating a vehicle without required financial responsibility.• Careless driving - serious bodily injury.• Reckless driving.
