The Tamaqua boys and Panther Valley girls came out on the winning side in basketball action last night.

Tamaqua (6-1) kept up its winning ways coasting by Schuylkill Haven.

The Raiders went into the half 26-9 en-route to a 51-22 non-league victory.

Brett Kosciolek led Tamaqua once again, scoring 13 points, while Bo Rottet added 10.

Mike Bubeck was the lone Hurricane in double figures, scoring 11.

Hatboro Horsham used a big second half to rout Pleasant Valley, 60-34, in the semifinals of the Hazleton Cougar Classic.

Bryan Sharp's eight points led the Bears, who trailed by just eight points at halftime.

For the Hatters, Zach Qualtro scored a game high 21 points.

Tamaqua-Emmaus

Emmaus dropped the Lady Raiders 39-36 in a heartbreaking opener of the Southern Lehigh Christmas Tournament.

The game featured multiple lead changes with the largest margin being a short lived four point Emmaus advantage near the end of the third period.

Maria Streisel (18 points) cut the Hornets lead to one with a baseline drive and Amanda Solt gave Tamaqua a 36-35 lead with 1:02 left in the game.

Anna Bear's basket put Emmaus up with just :27 remaining. A turnover killed Tamaqua's next possesion and the ensuing basket gave Emmaus the final score with 2-seconds remaining.

The Lady Wreckers kept it close throughout, but were outscored in every quarter.

For the 'Canes Emma Schweigert scored a game-high 15 points.

Panther Valley outscored Mahanoy 38-15 in the second half to advance to the championship game in the Senator Rhoades tournament, winning 58-33.

Abby Whildin had a nice night on the hardwood for the Lady Panthers, scoring a game-high 18 points, including two treys.

Low post presence Trayvonda Rice tallied 14 for PV as well in a winning effort.

For Mahanoy Area Macey Brown was the lone Lady Bear in double figures, scoring 11.
