A total of 521 Carbon County families received Toys For Tots during the Schuylkill Carbon Marine Corps League's Toys For Tots distribution held at the Salem Bible Fellowship Church in Lehighton.
Prior to the distribution, the main area of the church was completely filled to overflowing with bags and toys. Approximately 30 volunteers helped the Marines distribute the toys to all the families. Every registered family was also treated to a ham, provided by the Tamaqua Salvation Army, which will hold its Toys For Tots, Angel Tree and food distribution on Wednesday.
"This is a great program that helps a lot of people," said local Toys For Tots coordinator Cheryl Laub. "We couldn't do this without the kindness of the community."
Volunteers added that the Marines used to spend time fixing old toys to give to the children.
Laub expressed the League's appreciation to all the sponsors, supporters, Salem Bible Fellowship Church, fellow League members and volunteers for making the event a success.
