Three facing DUI charges

Three drivers are facing driving under the influence (DUI) charges following incidents over the past weekend.

State police at Lehighton said Luther Carwell, 59, of Slatington, was stopped about 11 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, along SR248 at State Road in Franklin Township, Carbon County, for traffic violations. He was found to be under the influence and taken to the Palmerton hospital for a blood test. Charges will be filed, troopers said.Brent Mertz, 25, of Palmerton, was stopped for a traffic violation about 1:55 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, along SR209 at North St., in Lehighton. He was found to be under the influence and taken to the Lehighton hospital for a blood test. Charges will be filed, troopers said.Larry Miquel, 64, of Palmerton, was arrested after being involved in a crash about 8 p.m. on Sunday along Mauch Chunk Road, at the Bowmanstown/Palmerton line, in Bowmanstown.He was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, troopers said. Charges will be filed, troopers added.
