Thomas Murphy remains Pleasant Valley school board president

At Monday's Pleasant Valley School District organization meeting, Thomas Murphy was voted by the board of directors to serve as board president as of Dec. 3. The term expires Dec. 2, 2013 or upon the convening of the 2014 organization meeting. This is his second consecutive term. The nomination was made by Susan Kresge, seconded by MiChelle Palmer, with a 7-0 vote (director Russ Gould was absent.)

Susan Kresge was elected vice president.Murphy then made the following appointments.• Monroe County Technical Institute JOC representative, three-year term: H. Charles Hoffman, to serve with Susan Kresge (term expires December 2013) and Dominck Sacci (term expires December 2014).• Monroe County Technical Institute JOC alternates: Russ Gould and Harvey Frable (terms expire Dec. 2, 2013 or upon the convening of the 2014 organization meeting)• Legislative chairperson: Susan Kresge (terms expire Dec. 2, 2013 or upon the convening of the 2014 organization meeting)• Pennsylvania School Board Association voting delegates: Susan Kresge and MiChelle Palmer (terms expire Dec. 2, 2013 or upon the convening of the 2014 organization meeting.)Murphy said other committees will be announced at the next school board meeting, to be held Thursday, Dec. 13.In other business, the board approved, 8-0:• Susan Famularo as the school district's alternate representative on the West End Park and Open Space Commission, term to expire Dec. 31, 2013• appointment of Monica Kotzmann as delegate to the Monroe County Tax Collection Committee from Jan. 1, 2013-Dec. 31, 2013.• appointment of Susan Famularo as alternate delegate to the Monroe County Tax Collection Committee from Jan. 1, 2013-Dec. 31, 2013.• the hiring of Shefike Mehmedi as a substitute custodian, MaryLynn Barner, part-time paraprofessional associate of an annual salary of $20,331, prorated, as replacement of Charissa Derr and as a substitute paraprofessional and as a substitute social studies/mid-level mathematics teacher; Joshua Spinola as substitute custodian/maintenance worker.The board approved (8-0) the following in business management:• amended 403 (b) Plan Document• contract with Devereux for $6.10 per 15-minute increment at a one-to-three ratio for program services for the 2012-2013 school year• contract with Trane of Northeastern Pennsylvania for year one at $4,486.92; year two $4,689; year three at $4,900, for three-year renewal maintenance effective Jan. 10, 2013-Jan. 10, 2015 for PVMS chiller.Dr. Douglas Arnold, PVSD superintendent gave recognition and thanks to the following for their generous donations and time:• the Ray Fitzpatrick family for donation of coats, hats, socks and gloves to be distributed to district students in need;• Ms. Mika for donation of school supplies;• The Gap from the Crossings outlet for book bags and school supplies for students in need;• Mr. and Mrs. DeVivo, Mr. and Mrs. Hinton and Mr. Dale Kresge for large and small items to furnish an "apartment" for the high school's Life Skills class.• Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company for its time and for a pizza party for the students during Fire Prevention Month.Dr. Arnold received a letter from the Monroe County Bar Association thanking PVHS teacher and Mock Trial adviser Christina Novak for her excellent contribution toward a successful Mock Trial.Dr. Arnold expressed the district's condolences to the families of the late Larry Court, a beloved PV teacher of 43 years, and Dean Borger who passed away Dec. 2, whose wife, Pam is a district employee (both PV grads) and daughter Mackenzie, who is a PVHS student, and two sons, Dylon and Dickson, PV grads.
