The Tamaqua Area School District will begin classes for the 2012-2013 school year on Monday, Aug. 27.
Steven Behr, principal of the district's three elementary schools, has announced that the school day will begin at 8:50 a.m. and end at 3:20 p.m. Building doors will not be open until 8:30 a.m., so students who walk, or are transported by private vehicle, should not arrive before that time.
Stephen Toth, senior high school principal, notes doors to the school will open at 7:30 p.m., with classes beginning at 7:43 p.m. Dismissal time will be 2:25 p.m.
Christopher Czapla, middle school principal, says the doors to the school will open at 7:15 a.m. Students must be in the school by 7:30 a.m. and in their respective homerooms by 7:35 a.m. Classes will begin at 7:40 a.m. and dismiss at 2:25 p.m.
Rush Township Tax Collector Dolores Walck has announced a change in her schedule.
The tax office will be open on Friday, Aug. 31, from 10-11 a.m. and from 6-7 p.m. Additionally, the office will be open on Sept. 4 and Sept. 5 and will be closed on Sept. 11 and Sept. 12.
These are changes from the hours found on the tax bills.
The North and Middle Ward Playground Association will hold its annual "Back to School" party and dance on Aug. 25.
The event will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the playground, located on Washington Street.
Music will be provided by DJs Brad and Kathy Murphy and Wally Poppins the clown will make a special appearance. In addition to the dance contest, there will also be juggling, balloon animals and more.
Admission is free.
The Rev. Thomas Reinsel will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Trinity United Church of Christ.
The Rev. Jeffrey Kistler will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include a Baptism.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, blanket ministry will meet at 9 a.m.; Thursday, leader meeting at 5 p.m., parent/leader meeting at 6 p.m.
The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at a special worship service this Sunday for members of Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will be held at 10 a.m., at Leiby's Grove. The church family picnic will follow.
