Navy promotion

Navy Seaman Apprentice Jonathan L. Porcano, son of Marie M. Porcano of Lehighton, and Leonard M. Porcano, of Lehighton, was recently promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes Ill.

Porcano received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle. Training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitnessPorcano also received the Military Order of the World Wars Award for superb dedication and motivation while discharging his duties.During basic training, recruits are taught general military subjects designed to prepare them for further academic and professional training in one of the Navy's occupational fields. Studies also include seamanship, close-order-drill, naval history and first aid.Porcano is a 2010 graduate of Lehighton High School, and joined the Navy Reserve in January 2012.
