More than 400 people were lined up outside the Kinsley's ShopRite on Sunday morning for the Grand Opening of the new store in Brodheadsville.
"I love it! I feel like I'm at a rock concert. I posted it on my Facebook and told everyone that I was in line here at Kinsley's. Some said I was crazy. I told them, I know," said Dori Hurley of Jonas.
A faithful shopper at Kinsley's for over nine years, Dori said she loves the Kinsley people and she's very excited about the new store.
George and Sheryl Selby of Kunkletown were the first people in the line. They arrived at 6:10 a.m. for the 8 a.m. opening.
They've been shopping at Kinsley's for 13 years.
"The people at Kinsley's are very friendly," says Sheryl.
George wanted to be the first in line because of the giving away of Power Cards.
At 8 a.m., the Kinsley family appeared as the doors opened. That included Bob and Doris Kinsley, their son Chris, his wife Margaret and their two sons, Chris and Robbie, daughter Dee Dee Jacoby, her husband Richard, and they all held a red ribbon. Bob and Doris held the scissors and the family counted "1-2-3", snipped the ribbon and the crowd burst into applause and shouts of appreciation.
The long-awaited moment the West End community had been looking forward to for a little over a year finally arrived and the store was officially open.
Charlie Fredericks of Effort had waited in line since 7:15 a.m. for the moment. A Kinsley shopper for 23 years, he said he likes the store because the family and employees are "friendly nice people."
"Finally we got it," said Kay Hoffman of Kresgeville. She's been shopping at Kinsley's for 10 years because of the good prices, good service "and the workers are very nice."
Kay's daughter, Kathy Angelino from Towaco, New Jersey, came with her mom to celebrate the moment. She said she was a loyal ShopRite customer in NJ.
Kathy Gregoire, Albrightsville and her niece and neighbor, Joanne Enlund of Albrightsville always shop at Kinsley's together and didn't want to miss the grand opening.
"But we left our pumps and pearls at home," she smiled.
Joanne was a little disappointed to be about 100th in line.
"I wanted to be one of the first ones here but I got up too late. We got here around 7 a.m.," Joanne said. A ShopRite customer when she lived in New York, she's been a customer at Kinsley's for the last 10 years.
"I bought a new freezer last week just so I'd have it in time for this because I'm going to really stock up."
They've been riding by for months to watch the progress of the building. They said the reason they love Kinsley's is because they carry a lot of New York products, the quality of meats and everyone in the store is very helpful.
Marge Murano, Albrightsville, standing in line since 7:20 a.m., said she was very excited about the opening. A shopper at Kinsley's for six years, she likes their sales.
Another customer said the reason she shops at Kinsley's is because of the people.
"They're conscientious and helpful. I have trouble with my legs and they always ask if I need help." She even knows the names of the employees, like Dan in the meat department and Cesar and Jodi, front managers. "They're like family."
That is exactly what the Kinsley family wants to hear, since that is the legacy they've been building on for 62 years, from their family to the families of the West End and the Poconos.
