Alleged drug dealer arrested

An alleged drug dealer was arrested in Tamaqua last night as borough police, acting in conjunction with the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force, executed a warrant for 34 year old Gilberto Luis "Cheese" Rodriguez. In addition to the alleged drug dealer, officers collected dozens of $50 and $20 "rocks" of crack cocaine.

Rodriguez, whose last known address was in York, was picked up in Freddy's Pub, Mauch Chunk Street, shortly after 11 p.m. on a warrant issued for a drug sale made on March 7.Undercover officers bought crack cocaine from Rodriguez at 10:30 p.m. that day, in the area of the Pine Street Pub in Tamaqua. The investigation into Rodriguez's activities began with a tip from the Lansford Police Department. Undercover agents made a total of four buys from the alleged dealer.Following his arrest the suspect was transported to the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, for video arraignment before District Judge Carol Pankake of Tremont. He was charged with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver, delivery of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communications facility, as well as one misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance.Pankake set bail at $50,000 straight cash bond. Unable to post that amount Rodriguez was incarcerated in the county prison. Additional charges are pending from the other three drug sales.
