Motorists traveling through Tamaqua will have another headache to contend with in the future, as the state prepares to rehabilitate the SR209 bridge in the 200 block of East Broad Street.
While the actual bridge reconstruction work isn't scheduled to begin until at least 2013, preliminary work will begin April 18.
A PennDOT contractor will begin boring test holes and digging test pits on the bridge this week. This will help determine the condition of the bridge's subsurface, gathering information in advance of the actual project.
The testing process could take up to two weeks to complete. During that time parking will be prohibited in the vicinity of the bridge and travel delays may occur. Parking restrictions will be posted.
Any vehicle left or found parked in the posted area will be subject to ticketing and towing, at the owner's expense.
