The Fifth Annual Hunter Meckes Memorial Soccer Tournament will be held Sunday, April 15, at the Lehighton Area High School soccer fields. The event starts at 9 a.m. U-9 to U-18 teams will be playing. D.J. Larry will be spinning tunes and there refreshments offered by Jim Thorpe girls and boys soccer teams. Proceeds from a basket event will be donated to purchase a bench in Hunter's name at the Lehighton pool. Also Mountain Karate will be doing demonstrations during the tournament.

Proceeds from the soccer event will fund scholarships in the name of Hunter Meckes, which will be presented to seniors in Lehighton and Jim Thorpe schools at end of school year award assemblies.

The event is being coordinated by Sherry Meckes, with the assistance of the Lehighton Soccer Club. Meckes hosts the event every year so that her son's name will never be forgotten.

Hunter Meckes died in an accident on Jan. 27, 2003. His mother has organized soccer tournament events for the past four years to raise funds for scholarships in his name because Hunter loved to play soccer.
