Raymond G. Anderson, 34, of Mahanoy City, is facing numerous charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol, for his role in a head-on accident that happened at 2:30 p.m. April 8 on Route 54 in Mahanoy Township.
State police at the Frackville barracks said he was driving a 1992 Geo Prizm westbound on Rt. 54 when it traveled into the opposite lane and struck a 2004 Ford Expedition head-on. The latter was driven by Benedetto Carbonetto, 40, of Bethlehem. Police said both units required towing from the scene.
Police said Anderson was observed to be under the influence of alcohol and was transported to the state police barracks for a breathalyzer, the results having showed his blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit.
Police said he was arrested on two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of accidents involving personal injury and charges of driving while his operator's privileges are suspended for a DUI-related offense, careless driving and restraint systems.
Police said Anderson and Carbonetto suffered minor injuries in the crash, as did a five-year-old girl who was a passenger with Carbonetto. Two other passengers were uninjured.
