Northwestern picked up victories in baseball, softball and soccer to highlight Wednesday scholastic sports action.

SOFTBALLJim Thorpe-TamaquaAngelica Heisler tossed five innings of scoreless relief to lead Jim Thorpe to a 7-1 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.Heisler struck out nine to earn the pitching victory.Krissy Bates led the Raiders offensively with three hits and two RBIs. Brianna Boyle, April Donnon and Heisler all added two hits. Joe Oriel and Steve Shanton both had two-run singles in the frame for the Indians while Jacen Nalesnik ripped an RBI double.Lehighton needed all of those runs to hold off a late rally by Stroudsburg as the Mounts scored five times in the seventh before AJ Wenrich came on in relief to finally shut the door and preserve the victory.Oriel led Lehighton offensively with two hits and three RBIs. Shanton added a hit and two RBIs.Parker David picked up the piching victory for the undefeated Indians (6-0, 2-0). A couple of batters later, he scored the winning run on a Cavalier error.Billy Miceli had a single, a double and a home run to lead Pleasant Valley offensively. He also scored a pair of runs. S-Stempien.Bangor-NorthwesternNorthwestern stormed from behind on three different occassion to pulled out a 13-12 Colonial League win over Bangor.The Tigers tied the game with a five-run fifth inning, re-tied it with a four-run sixth inning, and then won the game with a three-run seventh.Ty Cunningham had a huge game for Northwestern (5-1, 3-1) with four hits, three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. HR - Bangor: Hester (6th, one on).Palmerton-Pen ArgylPalmerton picked up its first victory of the season by stunning previously unbeaten Pen Argyl, 6-5, in a Colonial League game.The Bombers (1-5, 1-2) did all their scoring in the second inning as CJ Cressman drilled a two-run single and Aaron Cook and Tanner Gutekunst both had hits and scored runs. Cook and Gutekunst both had two hits in the game.Kirby Mutton had two hits, a run scored and an RBI for Pen Argyl (4-1, 3-1).Ryan Saylor got the pitching victory for the Bombers with seventh innng relief help from Tyler Svetik. L-Ruggiero.Marian-Pius XAnthony Martino tossed a four hitter and struck out 11 as Pius X defeated Marian, 11-1, in a non-league game.The Colts (3-1) got their only run in the sixth inning when Nick Kwedar singled and eventually scored on Zach Motil ground out.Marian had a runner on third with less than two out in three of the first four innings but failed to score. HR - PX: Malatz (6th, one on).GIRLS SOCCERMoravian Academy-NorthwesternNorthwestern allowed just two shots on goal in their non-league match-up with Moravian Academy and ran away with a 5-0 win.Sarah Seoan, Anna Erricchione, Caitlin Harris, Sabrina Mertz, and Angela Motolese all scored goals for the Lady Tigers.Rachel Kester and Haylee Kubat added assists to help get the shutout victory.ES South-LehightonEast Stroudsburg South scored three goals in the first half en route to a 5-1 MVC win over Lehighton.The Cavaliers dominated the game throughout out shooting the Lady Indians 21-2 in shots at the net.The lone Lehighton goal came on a penalty shot by AndrewWith the loss, Lehighton drops to 1-3 on the year.PM West-Pleasant Vy.Pleasant Valley jumped out to an early lead and went on to post a 3-1 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.Dianna Connor and Amber Skworzow scored goals to give the Bears a 2-0 halftime lead. Emily Schlogl added a goal in the second half.Pleasant Valley held a 9-4 advantage in shots. Bears' goalie Janella Pastrana made three saves.Pleasant Valley improves its record to 4-2 overal and 3-0 in the MVC. Pocono Mountain West falls to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the league.
