Prior to Wednesday's game, Erv Prutzman compiled his Northern Lehigh baseball team's statistics.

After getting his statistics up to date, Prutzman wasn't impressed with the Bulldogs' .247 team batting average.Against Colonial League North Division foe Catasauqua, the Bulldogs finally flexed their muscles offensively as they recorded a 15-10 victory. Northern Lehigh pounded out 16 hits against the Rough Riders and also benefitted from four walks and a hit batsman."We only had three guys above the Mendoza line, which is .200, and everybody else was below," Prutzman said. "We had a guy batting .077 and another .088."Despite their big offensive game, the Bulldogs were clinging to an 11-10 lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning.That's when Kyle Schomp provided the key hit for Northern Lehigh.After failing to get a hit in his four previous at-bats, the Bulldog senior delivered a three-run home run. Not only did the blast to right-centerfield give the Bulldogs (3-3 overall; 1-3 CL) some insurance runs in the late innings, it also gave Schomp, who was hitting .167 entering the game, some added confidence and motivation."I wasn't able to be here all winter because I wrestled for the first year, so I wasn't here throughout the hitting clinics," Schomp said. "So, it felt pretty good because I finally made some solid contact."I have been struggling a little lately, but it felt good to finally get the ball on the bat and collect one solid hit when we needed one."On the season, Schomp now has three hits and two of them are home runs.It was the lift the Bulldogs needed, especially after they continued to build themselves comfortable leads only to see the Roughies continuously battle back."We all fought hard today because Catty was a really tough opponent," Schomp said. "They kept fighting back each time we built ourselves a lead. We just dug it out there and we were able to win this game."The most motivating thing in the Bulldogs' first league win was the performance of the No. 5 through 8 hitters Branden Papay, Kyle Wasilkowski, Cody Hallman and Ryan Trexler put up. They combined for a 9-for-14 performance at the plate, which figured out to a .643 average on the day. A huge improvement over the Bulldog batting averages entering the game.Wasilkowski led the way with three singles, three runs scored and two RBIs. Hallman added a perfect 2-for-2 performance with two singles, two runs scored, two RBIs, a walk and a hit-batsman. Papay had a single, a triple, a run scored,and an RBI. Trexler had two hits, four RBIs and a run scored."I don't know if we have any outstanding hitters, but we feel comfortable with our lineup," Prutzman said. "We'll take the hits wherever we get them up and down the lineup."Our game with Jim Thorpe, their 7-8-9 hitters killed us and their top of the lineup didn't do anything.
