The congregation of Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley has welcomed a new pastor, the Rev. Dr. Edward L. Bean and his wife, Sharon. The couple has been married 45 years. They reside in Bethlehem.

Pastor Bean brings experience in pastoral duties as well as educational knowledge to his new charge. He has served the congregations of Grace United Methodist in Telford; Salem United Methodist Church in Danielsville, Salem United Methodist Church in Palmerton; Wesleyan churches in Pennsylvania and North Carolina; and Evangelical United Brethren Church in Alma, N.Y.

As a professor, he taught classes at United Wesleyan College in Allentown and John Wesley College in High Point, N.C.

He and Sharon have one son, three daughters, one son-in-law and three grandchildren, all residing in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Bean is a graduate of Houghton College. Currently a homemaker, she has interests in sewing, summer canning, reading and music, serving many of her husband's congregations as a pianist/organist.

A full member of the Wesleyan Theological Society, Bean has a special interest in historic Methodist studies, gardening, coin collecting, travel and reading. He is a graduate of Transylvania Bible School of Freeport, Houghton College in New York and Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky.

Calvary EUM is located at the intersection of Catawissa and Valley Roads in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday worship services are held at 10:25 a.m., with Sunday school classes at 9:15 a.m.
